I know everyone sees porn bots as kind of an invasive species here, but that’s not true! rather, they’re a native prey species that’s been allowed to go unchecked for too long.

allow me to explain:

just like white-tailed deer, porn bots have been growing in number in recent years. and the source of these problems is largely the same: a lack of any natural predators, and a decline in human hunting.

when’s the last time you, personally, reported a porn bot for spam? it’s been a while, hasn’t it. I mean, it seems pretty pointless - deactivating one blog won’t cut down the bot numbers in a way that matters. just like hunting a single deer won’t help with the local roadkill problem.

and when one bot species takes over, it can lead to others, like the staffbots, following after them.

it’s just like I tell Susan at work - if you don’t like the turkey vultures, bring back the wolves! otherwise your highways are gonna be a mess, and you’re still gonna get lyme disease every summer.

by removing these natural predators for our own “safety”, we’ve inadvertently caused a much bigger problem - one that can only be fixed by reintroducing said species to its natural habitat.

and the only way we’re going to beat back the porn bots is by reintroducing their natural predator:

real nsfw content creators

think about it: how many porn bots did you see before tumblr started deactivating real nsfw bloggers? not many! and if you did see one, you could easily report it as spam and go on your way.

but with the departure of the actual human-run porn and erotic art blogs, there was a gap in the ecosystem that was easily filled by these robotic nuisances. and with the site policies changed, reporting any blog for having nsfw content felt like an act of treason.

we used to have a thriving community of nsfw artists and individual creators, healthily living alongside the sfw content, easily avoidable with tag filtering.

but now that tumblr has driven them away, we’re left with a sickly echo of what was - an environment where the overabundance of porn bots is choking out everything they touch, and chasing away the few users that remain on this godforsaken hellsite.

the only way to survive is to restore the health of this ecosystem. and the only way to do that, considering the weak functionality of this platform, is to bring back actual nsfw content.

because how would porn bots be profitable, if there was genuine, good nsfw content to drown them out? how would they persist, if tumblr’s user count was once again as high as it was before the winter of 2018?

I believe this future is possible. it might take time, but eventually we would have power in numbers - and with those numbers, we could restore the balance.

anyway, I’m okay. how are you guys?

@staff with onlyfans shutting down nsfw content there’s also a golden window of opportunity

I was mostly just rambling but fuck, that’s actually a good point
